When I looked back, I found an older woman holding a hoe. Her thick, long hair hung straight down and brushed the ground. It looked extremely unusual. At that moment, I realized that the safe zone had shrunk, and I was standing in a danger zone. “It’s the middle of the night. What are you doing out here instead of sleeping?” The ghoul lady looked straight at me. I watched as her black hair floated and got close to winding around my neck. My throat was parched. It was a natural fear response. Shaking, I raised the eggs and greens in my hands.

In the darkness, my foot struck something, and I nearly tumbled down the stairs. "What's that?" I caught myself as a heavy reek of blood filled my nose. I pulled out my phone to light the way. One glance and my blood ran cold. It was the fake officer's body. He was dead. My stomach lurched, and I retched. His eyes were wide, and he was slumped against the wall, utterly still. Blood covered him, especially across the chest, and his clothes were almost black. I must've stepped on his outstretched foot and nearly fallen. I fought down a wave of nausea, lifted my phone for light, and stepped closer to see how he'd died.

HE WATCHED her smile at him. Oh, how she had such a pretty smile with her short dark blonde hair and those wide brown eyes. She was in a ‘Pocahontas’ costume, a black weather with a white tip sticking out at the back of her hair which kind of confused him. Why was she dressed like that? She approached him slowly and he could feel her warm breath causing his face to flush but he felt different this time. He felt confident. She touched his hand, making him to look down and could see the shadow cast on the ground where there was a picture of a lion’s head—Barnstable High School logo. He savoured the moment, raising his head to look into her eyes which sparkled under the moonlight. He noticed

She threw back the covers and hurried to the bathroom to ease herself and sighed in relief when she was done. Flushing after herself, she returned to the dark room and climbed into her bed. A light weight on her chest had her switching on the light. The sight she saw sent cold waves through her spine. On her chest facing her was a three year old baby boy. The first thing that stood out to her was his pitch black sclera, red iris and black pupils. Next was the blood that stained his whole face and naked body, and the creepy smile he gave her. "Mama!" Modupe screamed and jumped in terror.

I never realized how peaceful humans look when they are in the depths of deep slumber. Just by looking at one you would think all well within the world, and maybe it is but not in my world. As I watch Sky sleep I realize two things, one being that I have finally embraced the fact that I'm a nonhuman and the other is that for the first time in my life I am truly scared. For the last few days all I have been feeling this intense fear, gut wrenching fear that at any moment one of the demons after me would come and kill the love of my life. Hence why I have been watching him sleep and basically following him around for days now.

The monsters coming out of the darkness around them were unlike anything Jo had ever seen before, and she’d been watching horror movies since she was a toddler--or thereabouts. Some of these things were conglomerations of mythical creatures--with heads and claws of one species and bodies of something completely different. Some had wings, others had horns where they shouldn’t be, and the one thing they all had in common was that they were trying to kill them. Or eat them alive.

And where the fuck was I? "Where am I? I'm scared…" My arms wrapped around my body as the smell of both sulphur and decaying flesh filled my lungs. It wasn't getting any funny, I was starting to get anxiety attack just by watching the horrific violence of the first order, done to people.
