The moonlight caught the edge of the blade, making it glow like a silver tooth. He started to wail, a long, thin sound that cut through the night. "Shhh," I whispered, mocking the way a mother might talk to a child. I swung the blade. The sound was wet. There was a sudden spray of warmth against my hand. I stood back up and wiped the blade on a clump of moss. The man on the ground stopped making noise. The woods went back to being quiet, save for the distant shouts of my friends further down the hill.

My voice was raw, empty, nothing but pain. I reached into my bag and pulled out a silver blade. The silver glinted under the corridor light. Cruel and perfect. Their eyes widened. "No! Erica, stop!" Chris surged forward, his arm outstretched. But it was too late. In one swift, terrible motion, I dragged the blade across my throat. Their screams tore through the hall. "No!" The world tilted. My knees buckled. Warmth gushed down my neck, seeping into my clothes.

“He’s taunting us.” “Why?” I whispered. Blade’s voice was hard, steady. “Because he wants us rattled. Wants us scared before he makes his move.” “Well, it’s working,” I snapped, my nerves fraying. Cruz squeezed my hand weakly. “Fear means you care who you lose. Don’t let him use that against you.” “Easy for you to say when you’re bleeding out,” I muttered, my throat tight. Blade suddenly lunged forward, stabbing the knife into the darkness. The clang of metal hitting concrete rang out, but no scream followed. He pulled back, chest heaving.

She sigh, said in a low yet excited tone, “I see you become the army of yourself...
