Betty’s hands trembled slightly as she fastened the clasps at Emilia’s back, and Emilia couldn’t help but notice her nervousness. “Relax, Betty,” she said gently. “You’re doing well.” Betty blushed, nodding quickly. “Thank you, Your Highness.” Once she was dressed, Matron Isla gestured to a silver circlet resting on a velvet pillow. “Shall I place your coronet, Your Highness?” Emilia hesitated, the sight of the intricate piece making her stomach twist. It was beautiful, but it felt like another layer of distance between herself and her old life. “No,” she said softly. “Not today.”

“What is…” Estella carefully placed the wreath in her hand and shot Roxanne a delighted look. Smiling, Roxanne patted Estella’s head and said, “It looks a little funny because I haven’t made one in a long time.” In response, Estella shook her head fervently. “I love it!” As if to prove how much she loved it, Estella placed it gently in front of her and began drawing it. Seeing that, Roxanne and the boys scooted over curiously, only to be shocked by Estella’s drawing, which was slowly becoming complete.

With a sigh, I shook my head at her silliness. She snagged the note again, quickly doodling a picture of two people, obviously a boy and a girl. I laughed to myself as she made the boy's neck and shoulders look like the Incredible Hulk. She drew crowns on each figure's head and wrote "Prom King and Queen?" I rolled my eyes. Then she wrote "Isaac + Tru" under the picture and slipped it back to me with a giggle. She was killing me!

“Look at what I made!” I set the book down quickly and opened my arms. He climbed up into my lap without hesitation and proudly held out a drawing: a stick-figure version of me, him, and Draven standing under a giant sun with a crown over it. We were all smiling. “I love it,” I said, and kissed his cheek. “I also made this,” he added, pulling a flower crown from his back, petals already wilting at the edges. I laughed and let him place it on my head. It was already crooked and messy and perfect.

Damon drifts toward center ice and stops at the logo. I follow. For a moment, we stand where the game began. Where so much between us almost ended. “Funny,” he says. “All that fighting over who gets the crown.” “And?” He looks at me fully. “There was only ever one.” The words hang there. Not competitive. Not sharp. Certain. Only one crown. And it doesn’t belong to one king. The arena lights dim slightly as the crew prepares to clean up. I feel his hand brush mine. Not by accident.

Something silly. We gathered brushes, colors, and blank canvases, and sat beneath the blooming arbor in the garden. The grass was cool beneath our feet, the sky vast and clear above. Birds chirped, and the scent of fresh earth and lavender swirled in the air. I painted a crown. Not just any crown, but the one I had seen resting upon Zevarion’s head when he was a god. My brushstrokes were clumsy, uneven, but it didn’t matter. There was love in every color, meaning in every line.

Summer had just begun, there was no reason she was charging so much to digest that information. When Artemisia stopped running her fingers through the yellowish leaves, there was a drawing made with charcoal and graphite at the beginning of that page. It was the drawing of a tall being and almost all made by shadows, Delfine tried to make a scenario for that thing, but all the young woman could understand from the scribbles was a half-open window and a crow in the chest.

I got up and went to Flora’s room. In the children’s room, Flora sat in a wheelchair with a small table in front of her. There were various brushes and drawings paper on it. “Floor, what are you doing?” I walked in and asked gently. She didn’t even raise her hair. She held her paintbrush and was drawing seriously. “Mommy, I draw another family photo.” “Is that so?” I walked over and took a look. Flora drew a picture of five cartoon characters. Two adults, two little boys, and a little girl are included. Needless to say, it was our family of five.

Elara’s POV~ It was a still night, the sort of still night that makes the world feel so stuffy for you. Without uttering a word to anyone, I left the house and held the flower crown I had made nervously. Petals, the pale lavender ones, with the white centers and the gold dust. It was so frail and so fragile, like the life that had died too soon.
