“Damn. Sorry, kid. I’ve been around too many of Marianne’s charity luncheons. Everyone’s got a niece named Bella or something.”
Atticus crossed his arms. “I’m not a Bella.”
“No, you’re definitely not,” Christopher muttered, finally pocketing his phone. “Bella wouldn’t have tackled me in the hallway.”
“That was a hug,” Atticus said, deadpan.
Gerard laughed. “Yeah, right”
Christopher stepped closer and ruffled his hair, the gesture firm but fond. Then my father entered. His eyes landed on Atticus, and something shifted in his face — something tender, something that softened the lines etched deep into his brow.
