I grab it and check the screen. Kiki wants to FaceTime. I click accept as soon as I see the name. Kiki is what I call Kieran, my best friend since we started high school. I turned the packet around. The instructions had a warning symbol. I stared at it.

Just looking at his face made me nauseous. I pursed my lips tightly and, with heavy steps, approached the high platform before climbing onto it. I was still trying to steady myself when a figure suddenly leaped from the ground and landed on the platform—more than a hundred feet high. My eyes widened in shock as I recognized the burly man, his body rippling with muscles. Then he spoke, his voice loud enough to shake mountains and stir the oceans. “Today, we are going to witness another memorable day in our pack. Today, we are going to crown our Luna. Everyone, cheer!”

A woman is inside, speaking into a speakerphone. "Fight Club Night! You know how it is, come test your abilities!" she says, with a lot of enthusiasm. We don't pay much attention to her, until she says, "If you’re an alpha and you love easy money, come check out Fight Club Night! Come on, guys, everyone loves fighters. The prize is one thousand dollars and there’s only five fights available. It's fun, I promise!" We all think the same thing, apparently, because we don't even say anything, we just get up and walk to the van, just like some other guys who were coming out of the club. The woman hands us a flyer and tells us it's less than two blocks from here.

Her arms are tattooed with black serpents, her eyes shine with a gleam of defiance. — So, you're the famous Cassandra. Her voice is low, gravelly. — Depends on who's asking. She smiles, revealing a gold tooth. — Here, they call me Rina. If you want to survive, you go through me. I tilt my head slightly. — Survive? I didn't come here to survive.

Shin replied to a message from Aunt Sherina. Then the girl put her cellphone back into the bag. Shin didn't know it was a new or used cellphone, because she got it from Aunt Sherina before Shin left the house earlier. But Shin was really happy when he got the cellphone. Since she was in school, she only used his parents' cellphone, because they didn't want Shin's education to be disturbed. And now she really has it.
