“Come with me.” Winter walked around the library. She then went to the very corner of the room, pressed the room button and made it open. A secret room that holds magic books for tier one witches. The book was flying, unlike the books in the front room which were neatly arranged on the shelves. Helena just found out there was a room like this. Each book was coated in fairy powder, so it could fly on its own. “This is the book!” Winter exclaimed. She reached for a book with a red cover; a book that could show a map of the world.

"Aiden! Pull back! You’re going to lose yourself!" But Aiden couldn't hear him. He could only hear the sound of the world slowing down, the molecules locking into place, the frantic, terrified heartbeats of the men standing in the entryway, now frozen in mid-stride. He took a step forward, and the concrete floor beneath him shattered into a thousand diamonds. He wasn't a man anymore. He wasn't even a monster. “Zayn MacQuoid, you can’t be this selfish! I’m working hard right now. I can’t have kids!” I compromised to quell her anger. I valued her career, but she resigned so that she could take care of Charles and Caleb better. Besides, she used the money I had saved for retirement for Caleb’s wedding. My leg hurt terribly during that winter, but I was too poor to see a doctor. Moreover, the temperature at home was freezing. It made me shiver. I tried calling Layla for money, but she hung up on me repeatedly. I could not hold on since I was old. In the end, I froze to death.

Marissa was about to flare up, but I pointed at Kyle's neck and said coldly, "Marissa Langley, what right did you have to give Nora's protection pendant to someone else?" Marissa's expression changed, and the words stuck in her throat. That pendant had been made from a family heirloom of mine. My daughter had worn it since birth, for fifteen full years. "It's just an object," Marissa said coldly. "Kyle kept catching little colds around that time, so I gave it to him for protection. "Owen Duncan, why do you always have to fixate on these tiny things?" I slowly lowered my hand. Little colds. Tiny things.

The tension in the room dissolved instantly, as if the explosive confrontation moments ago had been nothing more than a brief interruption. Only I, floating in mid-air, felt a bone-chilling cold as I watched the moving red dot. That wasn't me climbing, but rather a wolf. Before I lost consciousness, I heard the howl of a wolf. The sound was very close, just behind the rocks. The hungry wolf must've been dragging my corpse across the snow, leaving a long trail of blood. It had clamped its jaws around my leg, pulling me back to its den as its Christmas feast. Every flicker of that red dot was another jolt to my broken body.

“Please deliver to this address, cash on delivery.” Outside the office, a car had arrived to pick her up. The driver waved when they saw her. “Here!” Wendy opened the door and, as though remembering something, pulled the wedding ring from her pocket. It was the ring Miles had slipped onto her finger by the ocean. The inner band was engraved with ‘Forever.’ She stared at it for two seconds, then tossed it out the window. It clinked onto the middle of the street, quickly crushed under the wheels of passing cars.
