The words landed like blows, and Kayla’s mind raced, trying to remember. But there was nothing there. The night Caroline died was a blank space in her memory, a hole where something should have been.
She had asked Kira about it. Specifically, why they had to leave the pack twelve years ago, and she knew Caroline’s demise was part of the reasons. Kira also told her she had been hurt, and after she gained consciousness, she lost part of her memory. Perhaps it was a way for her mind to protect itself by forgetting.
