Taking a step back, and then another. “What?” Roman blurted, looking like he didn’t expect those words from me. Even Bertha turned to look at me like I’d grown a second head. Right. Apparently I had knelt down and begged for his love, they seem to be forgetting I am not that woman. Yet. A niggling voice at the back of my head echoed. Will I become that woman if my memories return?

Getting my hand out was a hassle, when I finally brought it out, the ring had stopped and it was an unfamiliar phone. I attempted to put it back on and stubbornly, it didn’t come on, then it came back to life. I curiously swiped up and a message was left on it. —In less than few hours, the princess would be left fatherless— My breath hitched. I felt like I forgot how to breath, temporarily. It was me. I knew. But who? I wanted to know who owned the phone. I looked at the phone again, swiped through the message and the one that caught my eye was —too bad, she doesn’t know the First Lady is still alive.

And just then, a sound interrupted us— a creak from the stairs shattered the spell. “Oh, crap, I forgot my phone!” Stella’s voice cut through, loud and oblivious. Anna’s eyes snapped to her, disappointment flashing across her face, mirroring my own frustration. Stella froze, her grin faltering as she caught the tension in the room. “Oh… I’m so sorry,” she stammered, her cheeks flushing. She darted to the kitchen, snatching her phone from the counter, then held it up with a nervous grin. “Got it! I’m gone!” She bolted back upstairs, her footsteps echoing.

He then continues the conversation by asking, "So what is the mysterious princess's name?" The nameless girl was about to speak when the large guard interrupts. Maybe part of me still carried the ache of never being chosen. Selene stepped closer. "The prince will become central to your fate." My face heated immediately. "I am not sure about that with him, it's... complicated." A faint smile touched her lips. "Fate often is." Then suddenly her expression darkened. The silver mist trembled. "They seek a gate." The word echoed unnaturally.

“Older than the current dynasty’s public reign.” The seer closed her eyes, fingers pressing to her temple. “I see… fractures. Gaps where memory should be.” “Do you see— death?” I asked. “No,” She answered after a moment. “I see—” she frowned and vibrated and then “—disappearance.” My blood ran cold… So, the lost princess is not dead. Good news, for now at least. “When?” I demanded. Her eyes opened, dark and reflective. “During the reign of your grandfather… Vladimir Virek.”

“So, when the princess goes to meet the prince, she finds out that the prince has lost his memory. He doesn’t even recognize her.” Hearing this, Annika was shocked. “What? He forgets the princess? What about the princess’s baby? Does he not recognize her either?” Annika asked with pure innocence. At this question, Aria burst into laughter. “No… He doesn’t even know he has a baby princess. A super cute one, just like you.” Annika beamed with joy at this. “Then what happens?” “Then…” Aria gently pulled Annika into her lap. “The princess goes to bring the prince back for her baby princess. And just as I was about to ask what was happening to her, a soft cry ripped past her throat. “Mama…” Tears trickled down her cheeks as her body shook. And with her recognizing the female in the memory—Iris was indeed the long-lost dark fae Princess of the Wicker Forest. I had no idea what came into me aside from her cries gripping my chest, and I found myself stepping into the water, rushing to her side.
