I can't imagine a cute girl like Swara would be the mate of someone as rigid as Clark. Among the female warriors, the one I noticed the most was Fiora because she was Jack's younger sister. I don't forget that it was I who killed Jack in the woods. Of course, I won't frankly admit to her that I killed Jack. I will not foolishly find my way to death.

He decided not to have a road name. Jack is the shortest of the three brothers, at just 6’ even, with black hair and blue eyes. Depending on the occasion he could be wearing a beard or clean shaven. Jack has the "open mouth insert foot" syndrome. It often gets him in trouble. Jazz is a bartender for now, until she decides what she wants to do with her life. She enjoys being a badass biker chic and with nothing keeping her from doing whatever she wants to do. School is just not for her. Jade said it was a miracle she graduated high school.

Jackie stirred in the bed and slowly opened her eyes. A man stood with his back to her—shirtless, wearing only sweatpants. The sides of his head were shaved, revealing intricate oriental tattoos that snaked down to his neck, while the middle part of his raven-black hair was braided neatly down his back. He was tall and dangerously built, his V-shaped torso exuding raw power. Broad shoulders tapered to a narrow waist, and his upper back bore black wings inked into his pale skin—like a fallen angel carved in shadows.

He screamed silently into the void. He couldn't shake it. He had to cut it loose. But he had no knife. Jack looked down at the beast. The gargoyle grinned, climbing up its own tail, hand over hand, reaching for Jack's boot. Jack realized he didn't need a knife. He had the wind. He lifted his free leg and kicked the gargoyle's wing—specifically, the joint where the bone met the shoulder. He kicked it repeatedly, brutally. Crunch. The bone shattered. The wing flapped uselessly, catching the air at a wrong angle. The drag force multiplied instantly. The sudden violent torque twisted the gargoyle’s body.

His voice was deep, monotonous. I clenched my fists at my sides, the crescent shapes of my nails surely being imprinted onto my palms, "Who the fuck are you and you better choose your words wisely because killing you won't be that difficult." I shrugged off my jacket and threw it on the ground. Rolling my shoulders, I let my wings out and unfurled them but the room wasn't big enough to accommodate their large size. I didn't even care if the shirt I wore tore into shreds because of my wings.

I backed into a wall of fur and it surrounded me. Standing in absolute shock, I watched as Jack grew rapidly, his flesh turning dark and hard. His head expanded and within thirty seconds or so he was easily twice the size of Finch’s wolf. How? Just … how? “My god…” I trailed off, as his shoulders fully disappeared and massive wings sprouted from his back. They quickly shot out and even though it was pretty dark out here, I could plainly see him. His eyes were now glowing and I watched with my mouth hanging wide open as his large body lifted from the ground with the movement of his wings.

Jax tried to ease my worries. Beside us, Sophie and Cage were locked in their own battle. Sophie had just knocked down seven pins, and Zharn was hyping her up like she’d won an Olympic medal. Jax stepped behind me, lowering his voice near my ear. "You need to relax your wrist. Your power is in your wrist, Scarlett." My name rolled smoothly off his tongue. I stiffened at his closeness. "I am relaxed." He chuckled. "Not with the amount of tension in your shoulders."

Jack stood at the head of the table, his slender fingers dancing across the hard-light interface. He was in his element. For nineteen years, Jack’s delicate nature and love for beauty had been a curse, a reason for his father’s men to hunt him through the freezing mud. Here, it was the law. He wore a flowing, immaculate tunic of woven white silk, his chameleon skin radiating a constant, warm pink luminescence. With every swipe of his hand, physical Pink Blossoms cascaded from his wrists, dissolving into the holographic projection and rewriting the city’s architecture.

“Are you my boyfriend or my bodyguard?” He held his ring in front of me, my eyes were magnetized by the intricate carvings on it. “Guardian angel, remember?” He straightened up on his seat, and in a louder than necessary voice, he said, “And unlike the last one you had, I have a sword, not a halo. And my wings are black, not white. It’s time they realized who they will have a problem with the next time they hurt even a single hair in your body!” My eyes widened at him. He took my hand in his again, and then he bent down to kiss my fingers once again. “I love you, angel.” He didn’t even whisper that. I was sure many people around us heard everything he said.

JAX I want to tear this dude’s fucking face off right now. It’s taking everything I have to hold my wolf at bay while I keep him pinned against the wall by the throat, trying to piece together in my mind what the fuck just happened. This guy is a reserve squad recruit- I think his name is Tommy or Tony or something? And I could’ve sworn he was dating Quinn’s friend from Stillwater, so why the hell would he be putting the moves on Quinn?
