Ashton’s POV The war room still smelled like iron and sweat. We’d won. Or at least, we hadn’t lost. Three of the mutated wolves had been driven back from Outpost 7. Their bodies lay outside, black fur, black eyes, and no blood. Just this thick, tar-like sludge that stank of nothing. Xander had his hands on the table, maps scattered under them. His hair was damp. There was a cut on his jaw he hadn’t let anyone touch.

A clay pot over a small fire was bubbling softly. But suddenly, the wind carried new, foul scents. I looked up. Seven or eight pairs of glowing green eyes stared at me from the bushes. The hungry Rogues were covered in wounds, so thin they were just skin and bone, their teeth bared in menacing snarls. The lead black wolf let out a low growl, its front paws slowly lowering into a crouch. I stirred the medicinal brew with a wooden spoon and spoke coolly, "You want to eat me? In your condition, you lack the strength to even break my bones."

As wolves, we have a much higher sense of smell, so my poor Lan is struggling right now. Thankfully he was in such a rush this morning that he missed breakfast, which I think is actually a good thing. I’m sure it doesn’t help that poor Matthan is dry-reaching in his mind. I think this entire situation has put me off my food because I just can’t find the desire to eat, and I feel bad because I hate wasting food. Nevertheless, I put my fork down and push my plate away.

The look of sheer disgust as the guard touched her and the snarl out of her made me laugh . “Ah the little prince and the red witch .” she says with a dry laugh . The taunting in her voice had my back up but I need to try to control myself , not let her get to me . “Enough of your bullshit , we want answers” Orion says with an emotionless tone . “ And why would I give you answers mutt ?” she says with her top lip pulled back over her teeth . Stepping forward I laugh as I run my finger over her mate's mark “Seems as though you yourself like mutt’s” . Yanking herself away from me she scratches “Do not touch me” .

“When I kill Lucas here, you will have MY pups and join the other woman slaves we have back at the packhouse.” I shake my head- There is no way I would ever allow him to touch me. They all charge us and the fight begins. I watch Lucas fight and I am impressed but then I hear familiar growls as I mind link him, “Climb the tree!” He stares at me, and I scream, “GO!” as 10 Zobs break into our line of sight. One attacks Alpha Mock, and he screams in agony as the Zob tears him apart. I watch his Beta and members run but that won’t save them. Lucas looks at me again, “Maddie!” but I shake my head, “Go!” I tell him again.

He only cared about money, and no one would stand in his way. Nat soon returned with bowls and looked at Mack. Mack smiled and nodded. He went to every cage now to have Nat hand out the slop. He unlocked each door as Nat placed the food in the cage, “No runners this week.” He smiled. Jenna looked at her food. It looked like some sort of mush. She had been eating it for the last two weeks and even though it was disgusting, it was food, and she was hungry. The other creatures were as well. She could hear them slurping the slop. Mack never gave them spoons They could be weapons under the right circumstances.

Smoke billowed from her, and lightning flashed within the smoke around her. “Damn,” Crusoe muttered. Olive was terror in this form. The look of pride on Lutz's face couldn't be wiped off. “That's our Flamera,” he commented and crossed his arms. Wayne was still standing with his arms crossed. His eyes closed. He didn't move one but even while his mate transformed and he stood there like he wasn't affected by her heat. All around, heart rates spiked, everyone trying their best to wait for the fight to begin. The Firewolf was getting impatient. She growled and lunged at the Big Bad Alpha. He was so small she could easily turn him to a mashed pulp with one of her paws.

I so badly want to beat the shit out of this stinky mutts leader. "Hey, beautiful!" & Then came the hell irritating, forcefully rough, extremely arrogant & the ear bleeding dirty voice of the smelly garbage mutt which vibrated behind my ear. I didn't turn. I didn't even flinch. I just took a slow, deliberate sip of my drink, avoiding that smelly breath totally before I corrected him, unimpressed. "It’s handsome." That stinky ass alpha mutt chuckled at my cold reply, the sound deep and predatory as if he can even touch my nail. Bloody self obsessed, arrogant mutt's. My rudeness still didn't affect him & a persistent shameless mutt which he is, said heartily.

Every broken soul here looked to me for decisions, for safety, for answers I did not have. And yet all I could see was Rue alone somewhere out there,injured and hunted. I slammed my fist against the frozen wood of the watchtower. The impact sent a jolt up my arm, sharp enough to steal my breath. “She was bitten,” I whispered to myself, the words fogging in the air. “By a mutated wolf.” The interrogations from earlier replayed relentlessly. The captured creatures hadn’t spoken in words, not really, but their reactions, their fragments of memory, the way their bodies responded to certain names… it had been enough.

POV. Alexander I can't beleve she called me a fucking mutt, my own mate she should know that not only is being called a mutt offenceive but it is also disrespectful as fuck. "You need to watch that prity little fucking mouth of yours before I put it to good fucking use." I growl out not even caring if there are humens at this fucking school that could hear me at any given time. I'm the Alpha of the strangest pack in the world, if I need someone to disaper then all I have to do is give the word and that person will never be seen or heard of ever agen.
