CHAPTER 59: A MATCH The library was nearly empty. Jane sat at her usual table in the back corner, tucked between the literature section and a window that overlooked the courtyard. It was her spot. The one place on campus where no one bothered her, where the world shrank to the size of a textbook and everything else faded away. Except today, everything else wasn't fading. She had read the same paragraph three times. The words blurred together. Her highlighter hovered uselessly above the page.

Jane and I separated at the dorm entrance with her promising to come over later so we could head to the orientation together. That tiny promise meant more than I wanted to admit. At least I had someone to walk with. Someone to talk to. Someone who didn’t growl, glare, or grab my face like they owned the oxygen around me. Jane was soft in a way that didn’t feel weak. Kind in a way that felt rare here. She reminded me of the fairies from the storybooks my father Alex used to read to Alexandra. A little sparkle. A little chaos. A little too bright for a place like this.

I glanced at him, then back at Christopher, and let the silence linger for another moment before I added, “I could read to you, just to help.” He didn’t respond, but Felix wagged his tail. I took that as a yes. I crossed the room quietly, stepping towards the bookshelf. My fingers traced over the spines until they landed on a small, paperback volume with gold-stamped lettering. I read quietly, “Jane Eyre” Perfect, I hoped. I returned to the chair diagonal from his, sank into the cushion, and opened to the first page. And as I began to read, the room softened, not entirely, but enough.

Franklin's POV I watched while Jessica tried to figure out the repair of the landline. After a few minutes of watching, I got bored and dashed into the library to check if books that'd help were there. The library itself was dusty, but it wasn't too repulsive. I walked round, looking for any book that'd say a thing or two about a demon king. I caught an old book I had read with Scarlett when she used to sneak in to see me. I sighed reading it. It somehow felt like I was reliving memoirs that should normally haunt me.

He started to help her unpack her books, glancing at the spines as they started to shelve them in a tiny bookshelf that wouldn’t hold even half of her collection. Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, John Keats, Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens—so many books, most of which had clearly been read over and over again. Kerry stood over Jane as she turned the page in her history book, casting a shadow over the pages. She cleared her throat and glanced up at him. "Do you mind? You're blocking my light." He stood back and pulled out the chair next to her, glancing around the library as if he may see the lycan. Jane read over her chapter, trying her hardest to block out the eyes over her shoulder. She felt like she sat underneath a microscope with eyes judging her. She knew that wasn't true. Kerry seemed like a nice guy, but it made Jane feel scrutinized.

Jayne said excusing herself Eva stood up and walked around the room for a while, the bookshelf was filled up with books, she picked up book ,an odd one, others had a smooth cover with dull colors but this one was covered with something that looked like glass, with the book inside but it didn’t really hide the fact that the book has been here for a while She opened it and it was Jayne when she was younger with her mom, her dad and a boy who stood beside her putting his hand around her neck

“Between revising, I’m now going to read the book from cover-to-cover and see what else I can learn.” “Well, Alex, if you find any more fascinating details, let me know.” “I cert—” “Very cozy.” He turned in surprise to see Marianne standing there, hands on hips. From the look in her eyes, she was definitely spoiling for a fight. What was it with these female hormones? Was no one safe? He sighed, thinking he didn’t need this. Penny smiled up at the painted face staring daggers at her. “Hi. Haven’t I seen you around? I’m Penny, the head librarian.”

“Arley!” I turn immediately to see Jane hurrying toward me with flower ribbons tangled around her wrist. “What happened to you?” she asks dramatically. “You disappeared upstairs forever.” “Apparently Alpha Janus suddenly discovered I’m the only maid capable of touching books.” Jane stares at me for one second before snorting loudly. “You’re joking.” “I wish I was.” She bursts into laughter immediately while dragging me toward the flower baskets near the fountain. “No wonder you look irritated.” “I rearranged files that were already arranged.”
