Freddie’s face twists, his breathing quickens, and he jolts awake with a gasp, eyes wide with fear. “Marcus,” he says, the name slipping out like it burns, before he realizes we’re all watching him.
“Who’s Marcus?” I ask gently, while Steel notes how Freddie’s fear spikes, his body tensing like he’s ready to run.
“Nobody,” Freddie says, too fast, the lie obvious, “just a bad dream.”
“Freddie,” Sebastian says, his voice carrying a hint of alpha authority, and Freddie flinches, making Steel bristle at the pressure.
