I swallowed hard, adjusted my jacket, and whispered to myself:

I stepped inside behind Max and his friends, trying not to trip over a stray skateboard or a speaker cord. The music was loud enough to make my ribs vibrate. Lights flickered in a pattern that made me feel dizzy, but hey at least it wasn’t a boring room.
“Welcome to the chaos,” Max whispered, nudging me. His friends were already elbowing each other near the snack table, daring someone to do the weirdest dance move imaginable.
