We slammed down hard, dirt and blood smearing everywhere as we rolled. No breath. No thinking. Just fists hammering, claws ripping, his hand in my hair, my knee in his gut. I bit down on his shoulder, tasted iron and fury. He roared, punched my jaw—white stars burst behind my eyes—but I didn’t let go. Couldn’t.
