Finally the slope ended and she laid under my wolf.. Her eyes shining in the moonlight and her face displaying many scratches with silvery liquid flowing out of them. It was the only way I knew how to protect him. He was the last thread tethering me to the world. If I let him get too close, I might snap and drag him into my darkness. I thought, eventually, he’d stop trying, but he didn’t. Even after months, even after seasons changed and the cold crept into my bones, Zevarion still came, always alone with something useful. Always with hope. During the full moons, my wolf would rise and hunt. She rarely spared rogues who wandered too close. The main pack knew this, they avoided the borders during the lunar peaks.

"She had a whole library of these old, leather-bound books. She used to call them her 'research logs.' She wouldn't let anyone touch them." "Kael told me to look up the First Alpha’s Silver Wolf Prophecy and the unblooded female." "That's a Silver Moon myth, Ember. It's supposed to be allegory, not history. It talks about the founding Alpha's mate—a rare, non-shifting silver-coated wolf—who sacrificed her bloodline to prevent a magical catastrophe. It's nonsense." "Or it's not," I insisted, a strange, cold conviction settling in my gut. "Why would he, a man who despises inefficiency, be quoting fairy tales at his human mate?"

Moon asked confused. "Weren't wolves created without humans? I can't imagine how Gaia might have turned out had the human half hadn't been released." Moon commented. "You must understand the importance of the part we all play in this. I have dealt with Chad and his Council long before I was your alpha. Winter was an old wolf, and I was his Luna. Chad’s wolves are different beasts in their own rights, they need to be reguarded with respect, or whoever the Council faces in physical or psychological combat will fall every time." she paused to sip her coffee.

she whispered, her voice echoing in her mind. The small white wolf nodded, its presence radiant and reassuring. "You have the power within you, child of the moon. Embrace it, wield it with courage, and you will find your way through the darkness." With those words, the wolf's form began to fade, its light merging with the ambient glow in the room. Mara's heart felt lighter, her spirit fortified by this encounter. As the room returned to its previous darkness, she knew that she was no longer alone. The moon's blessings and the guidance of the guardian wolf would be her companions in the journey ahead.

I read it. The passage was about the full moon. Every wolf knows their strength is highest on those nights. I never thought about it, but it’s the same for wolves who haven’t been born yet. In cases like mine, the unborn take more on those nights. They draw on their mother’s strength, pulling energy from her for their own changes. If they get hungry enough, it could weaken me, maybe even put both of us in danger. I read it a second time to be sure I had it right. Then I put the book down.

She seemed to be calming down, a bit anyway. "The Wolf Moon was named by the indigenous peoples of this continent hundreds of years ago. They called it that because in the winter they heard the wolf packs howling around their villages. Little did they know the full moon in the darkest part of winter held great power for us." She seemed to forget her fears for the moment as they spoke. Rhys thought maybe it would be best to continue the discussion in private. "Why don't we talk about everything that will happen tomorrow so it won't seem so foreign to you." He held his hand out, waiting for her to take hold.

Usually while being made to repent for my sins by the High Priest. But to voice those thoughts aloud... “When the Sun found out, she set out to punish them both. The Moon was banished. She was given to the God of Night to be locked within his prison in the sky. And the Elderwolf? Well, the wolf inside him was caged—only ever able to break free of his chains when the Moon was the closest and her power could reach him.” “On the night of a full moon.” The wind rustling through the trees almost swallows my words.

Back then, the council hadn't been formed and it was the first time anyone had ever seen the Gifted Wolf. "Legend says that they were the first pack ever created under the moon hence the name, Wolf Moon or Chaste Moon," I shrugged, leaving out the part about my ancestors. That would have probably bored her to death. "Not all legends are true," she sashayed her way to the freezer, pulling out a tub of choc mint ice cream and two spoons from the drawer. It was like she already made this her home.

Stronger for it. Above, the cracked Moon poured her pale light over the den. Within Luna’s chest, the Moonstone pulsed. Her sickness did not vanish. Her divine blood still hummed. Her wolf still shifted, restless. Nothing out there had changed in the last few moments. But something in here had. She had finally taken the story of her missing wolf—the years of shame and silence—and placed it in Orion’s hands. Not as a burden he must fix. As truth they would carry. Together.
