~Three Days Later~ ~Sunny’s Point of View~ “Mommy, can I ask you something,” I said. “Of course honey, what is it,” she said, brushing my hair. I loved that, it was so relaxing and it almost put me to sleep. “Who is the scary man that is around sometimes, why does he always stare at me,” I asked. “Oh … well sweetie he’s a vampire and he lives here,” she said. “He LIVES here?! Why does he live here, shouldn’t he be with others like him, won’t he hurt us,” I asked, horrified.

It infuriated Cassy more—with the night that’s the homecoming of the ghosts and horrors. A wicked laugh itched to be out, instead, she scrutinized the height. The distance between her and the ground did not harrow her. It amazed her at how different she’s lurking around where the normal people might not even stare without a wave of nausea washing over them. An urge to smoke-filled her; she fetched a pack from the inside pocket of her dark blue jacket; ignited the flame, mumbling, “Every legendary story is a pent-up frustration of human beings to invoke fear in the minds of those whom they hate. Several against one or one against many.”

The air in the library was thick with the scent of old books and the faint hum of fluorescent lights. Sadile Marconi, her fiery red hair cascading over her shoulders like a river of flames, sat at a secluded table, her green eyes darting between the pages of her textbook and the clock on the wall. The numbers seemed to mock her, ticking away the minutes until her next class, a class she was dangerously close to failing.

Tonight was our first official sleepover in the treehouse, and we'd dragged up sleeping bags, flashlights, and enough snacks to last a week. "Tell me a scary story," Avy said, settling into her sleeping bag. "I don't know any scary stories." "Make one up." "Okay, um..." I pointed my flashlight at my face for dramatic effect. "Once upon a time, there was a girl who read so many books that her eyes fell out." "That's not scary, that's stupid." "Fine. There was a boy who was so bad at football that the football grew teeth and ate him." Avy giggled. "You're terrible at this."

Then Sienna started laughing—real, genuine laughter that shook her entire body. "What?" Marcus asked, though he was smiling. "We're fucking in a kitchen like we're in a bad romance novel," she said. "And I don't even care. This is insane." "Completely insane." He kissed her forehead. "But also—" "Also the best thing that's happened to you in years?" She pulled back enough to look at him. "I know. It's the same for me."

“Fine, we’ll let Hellfire tell us a ghost story.” “I don’t know any ghost stories,” I say. “What about you, Siren?” Venom asks her. “Nope.” “Well, then, it’s time the two of you become good at making up stories,” Intrigue says. For the next couple of hours, while Hacker and Sphinx work in the van, the rest of us make up ghost stories. I have to admit, Raptor is really good at making up scary stories and Intrigue is as well. Megan’s aren’t terrible, but Venom’s are, as they said, pretty stupid. I’m not sure mine are any better, but I made up one about the ghost that lives in the river, and it made everyone glance at the river we’re sleeping beside more than once.

John smirked, his eyes gazing at the scared faces of his girlfriend and friends. "Ha ha ha, scared? I've never been scared of anything in my life!" Rocky roared in laughter as he rose from the ground. "Scary stories don't scare me. I'm gonna pee!" He uttered still grinning. "Don't wander far into the woods, you never know who you'll meet." John warned in a playful but spooky voice.

In 1983 a Mrs Carson of New York was laid out in our coffin, presumed dead of hear disease. As mourners watched, she suddenly sat up, alive as you or I.
