Shabat gently towels off my body while Iamem fetches the dress—deep red like blood, long, with a plunging neckline and a high slit that reaches my thigh.
I slip into it carefully. Then they brush my hair, weaving in golden ornaments that form a sort of crown. I catch my reflection in the water and see how beautiful I look.
“Would you like a mirror, my lady?” Shabat asks.
“What?”
“A mirror. They’re more of a human thing—they love seeing themselves—but some fae have them too. If you’d like one, I can get it for you,” she says with a smile.
“I’d be so grateful,” I reply, and she dissolves into smoke, vanishing right in front of me.
