Elize asked Gavin looked at Elize first, and she also looked at him. "Have you been in Daddy's office?" asked Gavin.

He walked over to his chair while he continued packing his books into his bag, and I hung my bag on my shoulder while I caught up with the door. As expected, Cassie was there. She rushed me as fast as she could. “Tell me about it already. Was it successful or not?” “You need to calm down—” I said with my teeth as I grabbed her with me. “You're going to make him uncomfortable if he hears you.” We rushed down the hallway, and when we reached the school compound, I let her go. “Tell me about it, Elle Bennett.” “I have a boyfriend.” “Yes! Yes!” My friend cried, hugging me. “You're never going to regret this.” Well, what if I did?

I smiled widely, immediately infected by her excitement. “Do you announce this to everyone you meet?” She looked around at the other people in the café, her smile dimming a little, as if sad she hadn’t shared the news with them. “No, just… close friends.” I wouldn’t call myself Gavin’s friend, much more a close friend. But our messy dynamic was not an innocent four year old’s business. “Good,” I commended. “Keep it that way.”. I looked in Gavin’s direction only to find him watching me intently. Unapologetically. He didn’t look away or even blink when I caught him. He just stared, hazel eyes glinting in the early afternoon light.
