" Gavin, one of my best friend spoke.. When it comes to maturity, he is the older brother of us. "If that's about that guy then I am never stopping Gavin.. " I said and scrunched my nose while Gavin gave up.. "You hate him this much.. " I looked at him and something about his look felt odd.. It was provoking.. His gaze was throwing challenge at me to speak further.. To bad that he doesn't know that I love to pick up challenges..

“I told you NOT to look!” My eyes immediately found Gavin standing across the room in a nice suit and tie. My heart fell deep into my stomach. His eyes darkened upon seeing me and a hint of a sarcastic smile appeared on his lips. “What are you doing here, Gavin?” I asked, pressing my lips in a thin line. “A friend of mine told me he saw you in here. So, I came in to speak with you.” I raised my brows at him, not sure what kind of game he was playing.

As I poured myself a glass of water, Gavin suddenly appeared beside me. "Hi, baby," he grinned, sliding into the seat next to mine. "Hi," I smiled back at him. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice like he was about to share some great secret. "Just to be sure—you’re not mad at me, right? We’re still best friends and chess buddies?" He said it all in one rushed breath, like a man desperate for reassurance. I giggled. Gavin and his dramatics. "Of course. Why would I be mad?" I assured him, and we shook hands like it was some kind of peace treaty before he scurried back to his seat.

I pointed at the seat right opposite my desk, then I walked over to my seat. I sat there, waiting for Gavin to speak but he never said a word. Instead, he kept his eyes on me, looking at me like I had something on my face. I raised a brow at him “Do I have something on my face?” My question was enough to snap him out of whatever trance he had gone into. He shook his head. “I was just wondering if we can be friends.” That was unexpected. I didn't respond. I didn't know how to react, so I just sat glued to my seat, this time I did the gazing.

It's our first year of high school and our parents have decided that I and Ryan are going to be in the same high school, Saber Hills International High(SHIH). Now sharing a school between me and my childhood buddy ain't a problem but not if that said buddy seems to have a problem with me. Gavin has been behaving a bit weird lately and I have tried chalking it up to nerves of starting high school but it's becoming too much.

I was man enough to admit my best friend was built much like the buildings he’d made his living building. “I think Annie likes me, actually,” I told him, quite sure Annie had given me a much easier time than Craig might have as a child. “She was sweet. She loved fishing, so I think I won a couple of points there.” He rolled his eyes. “Suck up. I never thought I would see the day you were looking to score points with a six year old girl.” “Neither did I, actually,” I chuckled. “When you put it like that, I can see why you don’t believe me. I’m not sucking up though, I just wanted to do something fun with them.”

That you could barge into our private moment and act like you are part of this family. I smile without pausing. “Ava is my friend. We’ve bonded over work, conversation about family, love, life in general, and I honesty consider her as a part of my life now. I don’t know if you understand what I’m trying to say, but I want you to know that I’m not trying to barge into your family. I wanted to meet your Dad and you, of course.” A glimmer of disbelief flashes in her eyes. “Georgia told me about you that first night. She thinks you’re cool. Successful even at such a young age.”

"Oh, hey! You two know each other?" Allison's heart made a little skip in her chest as her brain raced frantically to come up with a plausible explanation. But before she could say anything, I stepped in. "Yeah, we just ran into each other," I said, flashing a polite smile." Hannah beamed, quite oblivious to the undercurrents of tension. "That's awesome! I knew you'd make friends quickly, Allison. You're always so friendly and welcoming." Allison forced a smile, grateful for my quick thinking. "Yeah, just helping out a colleague."

Today, their was last meeting as they were going to leave the country in a day. Their fathers were childhood friends and lived in the same neighborhood. Both the families were good friends and so their children but the friendship between Gavin and Silvia was different. Since Silvia was born, their parents would joke to marry both of them so their friendship would turn into family.

Instead, I just answered his earlier statement. "Well, I can say that we knew each other QUITE WELL," I said to make him feel at ease. "I consider him as my only friend. As you can see, I was so busy with my career to the point that I don't have time to make friends. That's why I'm thankful for Gavin's existence in my life now. Because of him, I experience having a friend." I said. He averted his gaze from me. "Good to hear that. So you two plan this pretend relationship?" He asked me earnestly.
