Before You Let Go
His jaw tightened.
Then, very softly, “Yeah.”
My heart nearly stopped.
“Then okay,” I said.
He leaned in slowly.
Carefully.
Like he was giving me every chance to change my mind.
I didn’t.
When he kissed me, it wasn’t perfect.
It was soft, hesitant, and a little shaky, like both of us were terrified of breaking something. His hand touched my cheek, warm and careful, and my fingers curled around the edge of the counter because suddenly my knees were not reliable.
