“I did,” the other replied, a cruel satisfaction curling his words. “Slipped it in myself. No one saw me. The poison’s clean, undetectable. Looks like wine, tastes like nothing. It was meant to be some new joint the southern crews were peddling…an experiment gone wrong. They thought they’d cooked up pleasure, but they cooked up death instead. I went through hell to get it.
