Sweat dripped from Tyler's forehead as he quickened his pace. The deserted street seemed to stretch on forever. "Thompson!" Luke's voice sent a shiver down Tyler's spine. Scared of what he might do if he caught him, Tyler broken into a sprint immediately. "Help!" He screamed, his backpack bouncing against his shoulders. His voice echoed off buildings but no one responded. Tyler's breath caught in his throat when Luke's laughter closed in and rough hands pushed him to the ground.

"Jeremiah, you're a sensible person. By now, you should understand where Mom, Dad, and I stand. Do us a favor and let our family have a peaceful New Year, okay?" My gaze drifted between the three of them several times. In the end, I slumped onto the couch, drained of all strength. "Do you really want to kick me out?"

Ignoring any hesitation, I surged forward with renewed determination, the urgency of escape propelling me towards the vehicle. With a burst of adrenaline-fueled strength, I closed the gap between us in a blur of motion. The man standing in my path was an obstacle to be overcome, a barrier between me and freedom. Without hesitation, I pushed him aside, his surprised expression fleeting as I seized the opportunity and dived into the taxi, slamming the door shut behind me. "Get the hell out of here now! Drive!" I barked at the driver, my voice laced with urgency and a hint of desperation.
