I'm not sure how long ago it was when I first saw him, staring down at the oldest, crumbling gravestone in his black hooded cloak. Yvonne immediately began scolding, "Juliette Sinclair, you shameless woman! How long do you plan to keep deceiving my cousin?" I frowned but refused to back down. "Watch your words. Who's being shameless here? Sebastian and I are legally married. What do you mean by 'deceiving'? You came here to insult me all of a sudden. Who's really being shameless?" Nodding, Wendy looked around the house before asking doubtfully, "I was only gone for a week, but why does it feel like the house is now a lot emptier?

I looked at the documents again,at the cold lines of text describing a man who had destroyed his own pack, then survived what should have killed him. “We’re not dealing with a professor,” I said quietly. “We’re dealing with a ghost.” Ares replied without hesitation. “A ghost who wants our mate.” My nails dug into my palms, wolf clawing under my skin. “Then he’s already dead,” I growled. “He just doesn’t know it yet.”

Xlynor’s POV I sat in silence for a long moment after Granny Jojo finished speaking, my mind turning over every detail, especially the part about the Ghost Wolf. As far as I knew, the Ghost Wolf was dead. She had been killed on my eighth birthday — the same day I was born. Or at least that was what everyone in the royal family believed. Ghost Wolves were usually born on the same day as a demigod hybrid… or a few years later… not more than ten. They were a balancing force and punishments to abominations like us.

If she faced criminal charges, she would lose everything. Panic took over, and she blurted out, “I’m Wendy! You can’t arrest me!” Everyone froze, then burst into laughter. “Are you insane? She’s dead. You dare impersonate her?” She screamed wildly, “I am Wendy! I am not dead! You know me! Tell them! I am your wife!” All eyes turned to me. I said calmly, “You are Stacy. My wife died long ago. You even handled the cremation yourself.”
