(Jaxs Pov) Jax couldn’t believe he was stuck knee-deep in the swamp chasing ghosts. The air was thick, tasting of rot and regret, the kind of place that made a man feel watched even when he wasn’t. Following Lucian here was pure madness. Then again, Lucian had always been half-mad, and somehow, people still followed. His tight-knit crew had shrunk to scraps. Just Gideon, Cole, Daichi, a few new recruits too green to realize what they’d signed up for and Lucian, that cold bastard who made every shadow seem to lean his way.

The day Gideon stumbled into our Tribe I knew he was mine, that the Goddess’ had got together and somehow decided to save me from the life of hell I had lived since the day I was born. Gideon was powerful, he intrigued my father. That's why he allowed him to stay on our lands, to show him some of our ways. What he did not know was he is my mate, Goddess given fated mate. I always felt like she had forgotten me, or I had wronged her somehow.

Valenticia behind the crates, Gideon beside her, throwing her the USB stick. “Get out of here!” I shouted, fighting off a third assailant. Valenticia’s scream split the chaos, and I glanced over to see Gideon stumble, blood covering his shoulder. Then there was a gunshot, a sharp, final report. He sagged, his gaze locking with mine, dimming quickly.

Nobody saw it coming and even if we did we wouldn't have been fully prepared. Gideon was running around the house all day trying to get things moved around to his office so that he could work from home for a few hours every day. He planned on involving me wherever he went so that I could learn the ropes of exactly how they ran. Everything people had spoken about this pack was starting to seem like some sort of fever dream. They always talked about the pack absorptions and violent natures of the wolves, but never talked about the good things.

He may have been a mobster street tough, but he had honor. When I was given the chance to come home and clean up the mess on our streets as the leader of Black Eagle, the first person I sought out was Gideon. But he was gone, lost in the war against Debrassy’s Downtown Devils. The younger son had taken the reins and broken the truce that had lasted between the families for generations. “We think he may have been behind the Vandersteele slaughter,” Gideon’s widow had confessed. “I can’t stop him myself, I need your help, Hazardous. He always wanted you to lead us someday.”

“So, it was you…” Gideon was captured. He was thrown into a sealed, heavily guarded cell. I learned this later because I had passed out from the pain at the time. When I woke up again, Zerrick was at my bedside, holding my hand tightly. His eyes were red, and his voice was shaking. “I’m sorry… I didn’t know you were pregnant…” That day, he told me everything that had happened since he left Denomia. Gideon had fought the Shane family to a stalemate. Zerrick had discussed countless strategies with the family's elders but could never deliver a fatal blow.

At that critical moment, Gavin and security rushed into the room and slammed Gideon to the floor, saying in an ice-cold tone, "Gideon, every one of your crimes has been recorded." Gideon's face drained of color as he struggled wildly. "You can't do this to me! I'm the Cross family's heir!" Police arrived shortly after and slapped him in handcuffs. As they dragged him away, he shot Lucy and me a venomous glare. "This isn't over. Just you wait." Gavin placed a hand on my shoulder. "It is over, Wendy. The Cross family's scheme has completely failed."

"Timothy... he’s a ghost for a reason. Don't count him out of the fight yet." "I’m not counting him out. I’m counting what I'm going to do to Lity if he so much as breathes on him." Gideon prowled back to the door, his heart hammering a frantic rhythm. "Thinking about him alone with those Rebellion fanatics... it makes the beast want to tear its way out of my skin." Kan coughed, a wet, hacking sound. "What about Gam?" Gideon froze. Gammer Hayes. Their tech specialist and only friend. "I haven't seen him since I left to get the gear. He was on the Xbox. I told him to stay clear of the kitchen."

The image on the monitors shifted, showing Diego’s team moving through the building. “They’re coming here,” I said. Gideon smiled. “Of course, they are. They’re coming to secure the system—and me.” Victor groaned from where he was slumped against the wall, his injury sapping his strength. “You don’t understand what you’re doing, Gideon. This isn’t control. It’s chaos.” “Spoken like a man who lost the game he started,” Gideon replied. Miguel POV “What did you do to him?” I growled, my voice low and dangerous.

The rest of the crew echoed the pledge, murmuring their loyalty and vowing to rein in Orion’s recklessness. Gideon’s eyes swept across them, cold and full of unspoken threat. He didn’t have to say more. He turned and walked out, his heavy boots crunching on the gritty floor, the door slamming behind him with finality. Back in the shadows of the hood, the silence returned—but it wasn’t peaceful. It was the silence of fear. And no one dared to breathe too loud, lest Gideon returned.
