Rue’s POV I fastened a thin silk ribbon of mask around my head, adjusting it until it fit perfectly over my face. The mirror reflected a woman I barely recognized—her hair pinned up in soft curls, her dress a pale silver that shimmered when I moved, her lips tinted coral. For once, I looked like someone else. “Perfect!” Bella clapped her hands. “You look mysterious and dangerously hot. The kind of woman men would kill to unmask.” I smiled faintly, lifting my brow. “And you?”

Not sure what to do with my hands or feet for that matter, I found myself shifting from foot to foot and wringing my hands. “Look,” she said, putting on her mask. It was white and sapphire blue to match her dress. The mask covered her mid-cheek and up. Only the tip of her pixie nose stuck out from beneath the mask. For the first time, I noticed that she had glittery lip gloss on to match the glitter on her mask. I applauded, not knowing what else to do, and she made a mock bow. “I paid for you to get a tux, I’ll give you the number.” With that said, she turned and swept from the room like an unstoppable force of nature.

Her chest felt like it was caving in under the weight of the choice. “You’re lying,” she said, but the words came out softer than she meant. He stepped closer, just one step, enough for the faint light to catch on the edge of his mask. “You know I’m not. The bond you felt last night—it frightened you, didn’t it? You tasted its power, and you liked it.” Her breath caught. Lucas’s aura flared hot, his voice a snarl. “Back away from her.” The masked one smiled faintly. “I’ll be back tomorrow night. Decide by then, Racheal. Either you come with me, or I will take you.”

There was no sign that this was once a mansion. A marble ballroom surrounded by mirrors was illuminated by chandeliers. An eerie tune was played by a live string quartet.

My eyes started to wander around. Suddenly, it stopped at the sight a man dressed as Zee described. Tall, slender stature, a gold watch, the silver brooch and everything... it was Rafael, I was certain. He only stood there eyes locking with mine, hands tucked in his pocket, that slim diamond neck chain that drove attention to his open chest. On his face was a black Venetian mask with gold designs on it, covering half his face just like mine, but unlike his mine had feathers.

Ruby's gaze was glued to the screen, her body shaking as if she had seen a ghost. "You don't have to sign," I said, my voice a chilling whisper. "But if you don't, this unedited, crystal-clear video will be tomorrow's sensation, plastered over every news site. I'll even send a copy to your parents, all your relatives, friends, and colleagues.
