Later that evening, I went to the town library and used a public computer to search anything tied to my past contacts. Nothing showed up. Then I saw an article. “Lycan Wolf Spirit Officially Marked Lost” My throat tightened. I clicked the link. The article said Lycan had disappeared from his pack. No one knew where he was. Some believed he lost his purpose after walking away from me. “No,” I whispered. “I did that…” My phone buzzed again. Another message: “You stole more than a wolf. Time to return what you broke.” I felt like screaming.

I forcefully opened the door into his supposed soon to be matrimonial room and saw my brother and my supposed Luna all tangled up in bed, moaning like their life depended on it, I was enraged, I growled and pounced on them, I was in agony, I could feel my wolf cry out loud inside me, he must have felt it too now that we are both seeing it play in front of us. I removed my brother from the bed first with full force, when they didn't seem to acknowledge my presence.

The agony I inflicted was tenfold what they had given Elara. Denver gasped for air, his amber eyes glowing bright as he tried to summon his wolf. The massive, golden-brown spirit of his wolf manifested over him, snapping its jaws at me in an attempt to defend its master. But a regular Alpha wolf was nothing but a fragile insect to me. I only summoned a red glow in my eyes, and Denver’s golden wolf whimpered in terror, its spirit instantly shattering and disappearing into thin air under the dominance of my power. His legs buckled. My breath caught. Gigi’s body stilled. A loud, rumbling, earth-shattering roar ripped from her throat, followed by a surge of golden-blue light. The air sizzled. The temperature spiked. The warriors around her staggered back. Their bodies seized with sudden confusion. Then panic. And screams. Piercing, agonized screams filled the forest. One of the wolves ignited. His fur burst into flames. Fire ripped across his body, consuming him like he was nothing but dry kindling. He convulsed, writhing, twisting, dropping, flailing in the snow, trying desperately to put himself out.

The air thickened and her pulse synced with mine. My wolf leaned forward, testing the air between us. A low growl rumbled from my chest, not of threat, but of recognition and her breath hitched in response. “Bladen,” she whispered, “your eyes…” I didn’t have the strength to hide the shift. The gold bled through my irises, washing away the human restraint I clung to. “Tell me to stop,” I said hoarsely. It was the last human sentence I had in me.

Its form wavered, shimmering for a moment, revealing hints of the familiar dark, matted fur beneath the illusion of silver. Its eyes, still holding the convincing image of a Silvermoon wolf, began to glow with that sickly green light.

I didn't question my father's obsession with wolf artifacts and legends, I didn't question why she wore a protective necklace against something that only existed in my books. I didn't question how my father died, I didn't question anything. I just let life go with me, I let it heal from all the things that were left behind to move on. Soon we were ready, I left the house with the feeling that I should go back but still I went. The Hall was crowded, everyone surprised to finally see me out of my shell, out of the cave where I had been holed up since the day of the great pain. - I don't think I even know how many times that day I heard that phrase pounding in my mind.

The werewolf came, its feet hitting the ground mercilessly as its hands joined in its movement. It broke out from the woods, tearing off the leaves of the trees with less effort, and growling at the sight of the man. “You can't take anyone from my family.!” Mark grinned as he shifted under the bright moonlight. His bones cracked, and his skin stretched beyond its limits, tearing to become as tough as that of a wolf. He growled at the phantom, just as the phantom growled at him. Like two behemoths, they collided, and the green grasses on the ground fell victim to their battle.
