She rubbed a little between her palms to warm it, then pressed it gently onto my skin, marking points the way ceremonial preparations were done for royal bonding rituals.

It made my pulse pick up, in a very unsteady way.
“You smell divine, My Lady,” one whispered, almost reluctantly.
I didn’t respond. I just let them finish, standing there while they moved around me, dressing me in layers of soft fabric they’d laid out on the bed — pale silk first, then a rich deeper shade that clung to my waist, smooth and cool.
