Pack law, not a cage. Fog lifted off the water behind her. Ahead, the pines closed like a throat. They were already waiting. Iskander stood in the path as if the forest had grown him there on purpose. Tall, dark-haired, a scar hooked under one eye like a question no one asked twice. Rhydian was at his right, broader, copper-blond, a faint smile that did not reach the assessment in his gaze. Caedmon lingered a half-step behind, quieter, black coat, the kind of stillness that made other wolves talk too much.

I shouted, pulling Dren with one hand and signaling Warren and Mara with the other. The clearing erupted behind us as another bolt sliced through the dark, hitting a tree so close the bark exploded outward in a shower of dust.
