I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the anger he would throw at me through the phone, before I tapped my thumb against his saved number and pressed the phone to my left ear. The phone rang once before it was answered. "Bella?" My father called out. "HI, Dad. Good morning." I replied in a lighter tone, hoping he wouldn't get too upset with me. "Are you alright?" He asked, his voice soft and not at all filled with anger like I had imagined it would. "I'm fine." I replied, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I just had a big breakfast." I added, in hopes of lightening up the mood even more.

I stepped into him, eyes locked on his, and my voice low and shaking. “Wrong,” I whispered. “I’m your worst fucking nightmare.” His lip split, but he only laughed like a maniac. Chapter 22: Solo Boss Fight The big black monster smashed into the concrete path with a loud crash that shook the whole wall beneath my feet. The concrete broke under its weight sending small gray rocks bouncing over the edge. Up Close, the monster was really scary. It was over nine feet tall with muscles that looked like wet leather in the dim morning light. It smelled like metal and rotting wood. It did not have hands; its long arms ended in thick curved bones that looked sharp enough to cut through a car engine. Its chest moved as it breathed, blowing a bad smell right into my face.

Right? “The enchantment has kept them asleep all this time?” The stranger monster’s awed voice travelled through the halls to me. Magic? Did it really exist? Well, if monsters did, then why not magic? “We are all awake. They broke the enchantment when they opened the door! Idiots don’t realize it.” The voice in my head sounded angry. “I’m so hungry. If they would just get a little closer...” The stranger monster screamed. “That thing just tried to bite me!”

As we walked, Tommy explained the game to me. “It's called MonsterGo,” he said, pulling out his cell phone. “You open up the app and then monsters pop up on your screen. They can show up anywhere, so you have to run all over town to find them.” Tommy snatched my phone out of my hand and quickly downloaded the game for me. “There, now you can play too,” he said. I shrugged, seeing the game as the perfect opportunity to distract myself from the misery that was job hunting. We ran around the park for a bit and it wasn't long before I caught my first monster. It was called a “Stingly.”
