I drove off roughly and began heaving to the pack, racing beyond speed limit and almost bumping into several cars. People cursed at me but I didn’t bother, all I wanted now was my mate.

Half my clothes had been thrown away, and a small portion had been boxed up and shipped to South City. “Why are you packing?” she asked, her expression uncertain. I brushed it off by replying, “Moving.” She paused briefly but didn’t sense anything wrong. Instead, she continued on her own. “The Grants’ business is in South City. After we get married, we’ll be moving there anyway. It makes sense to start packing early.” Then, her gaze sharpened as she looked straight at me. “About Tim’s mother, you need to apologize as soon as possible. Don’t put me in a difficult position. Why don’t you do it on the wedding day? What do you think?”

He answered in his heavy tone. I really wanted to slap him. Leave late? How dare he said like this? Again, with a smile, I nodded. “One more thing. You may not go before me.” He warned me. “But, standard time is six,” I answered him. “Do you really want this job? It’s an order, not a request.” “Come on, chop... chop... get back to work.” He snorted. I went back and started my work. In between that, I got a call from mom, informing her about being late.

I would go anyway. "She's right, Chris. I'll leave…you don't owe me anything. It's not like we're married. Gemma… you can keep him." I was crying when I didn't want to. We were not married anyway. I walked to my desk and picked up my handbag. Everyone was bent over their work desks doing their business. I could just sit down and get back to work. I needed this money.
