Marked in the Middle
The mountain finally exhaled a long slow sigh that carried the scent of rain.
Nora turned to Lira and Grayson.
Neither spoke. They just stood together, breathing, watching the mist dissolve into the sky.
Finally, Lira said, “So… we rewrite memories now? That’s our thing?”
Nora smiled through the ache in her chest. “Guess so.”
Grayson nodded toward the valley below. “Then let’s start with our own.”
As they began their descent, the pendant hummed one last time.
When Nora looked back, she could’ve sworn she saw Kael’s shadow standing at the crater’s edge not fading, not gone, just waiting.
