I could make out through my blurry focus that Scarlet was trying to drag herself towards me, telling me something but I couldn't hear her. I could hear the things falling, falling into pieces. A sharp crack echoed through the structure. Ryan watched from the street below with horror. “Oh my God…” Daniel grabbed his shoulder. “They can still climb up.” Ryan shook his head. “That thing is about to collapse!” Thirty floors above them… Emily tried to pull herself upward. Her arms were shaking from exhaustion. Her shoes scraped uselessly against the broken metal.

There's no safety wall behind him. No one to grab him. He goes backward, over the edge, his face surprised, as if the reality of what's happening hasn't registered yet. He disappears from sight.
