Aliyah's POV My stomach lurched as I fell, the sensation of gravity disappearing as it swallowed me whole. I tried to scream for Skylar, for Tyler, but the gag in my mouth turned my cry into a pathetic, muffled sob. The fall didn’t last as long as I expected. I hit something hard, not stone, but a thick layer of moss that smelled like old blood and stagnant water. The impact knocked the wind out of me. I rolled across the damp floor of whatever we had landed in, my silver chains clanking against the ground.

Apparently, even the insane asylums were made to be beautiful and regal. As soon as my full weight came down on the garbage bag, my leg sank through the floor with a crunch. I knew our evening of spelunking in the abandoned building had instantly taken a dire turn. The ground is literally swept from underneath me, and I fell over the collapsing floor in a blur. Screaming Randy's name, I flailed my arms out in a desperate attempt to snatch hold of something to stop myself from plummeting down to the level below.

The color of the wood seemed to be fading, and the standing seam roof was patched up with chopped woods that created a huge hole in between them. The porch elongated to the other side of the front shack, and the door was placed oddly that I had to tilt my head or gouge my eyeballs out. The creepiest thing I noticed was how the woods were so moist that it already was darkened. It sent a shiver down my spine just by looking at it. But it seemed like fate was playing with me. A massive field of grain stretched out before him, the stalks swaying gently in a breeze that did not feel like a threat. A few yards away stood a large wooden barn. The scent of horses and old hay drifted from its open doors. In the center of the clearing sat a small, circular hut made of stone. Sloane tried to reach for his knife but his hands were heavy. He looked at the Shackle on his wrist. The gold was dim, cold, exhausted. The effort of the blast had drained it. The numbers were still frozen, but the light that usually pulsed beneath them was gone.

Michelle whispered. I nodded, though doubt flickered in my chest. My father had always said the safest places never looked safe at all. Inside, the shack was barely larger than a toolshed. Dust coated the floor, and the walls were bare—until I noticed a metal hatch tucked against the back wall. I pulled it open, revealing a narrow staircase descending straight into darkness. We climbed down carefully, step by step. The air grew colder with every foot, thick with the smell of old steel and earth. As soon as both of us reached the bottom, the hatch above us slammed shut.

There is a weak smell of pee, not human but some animal. “What if I dig my way out ?” I drag my foot over the dirt floor. “The shack has been dug two meters into the ground. There is a steel bottom down there and a hell of a lot of earth on top of it. So please wear yourself out”. Martin gives me a thumbs up. He kicks some of the dirt away, revealing a hatch to a small room filled with chains. “Time for a bit of bondage play girls”. He chuckles, attaching the first chain to a ring on the wall.

/We’re trapped/ she concedes grimly. I shift back. The hole is constructed of soft, crumbly sad, it becomes painfully obvious if I dig too much I risk a collapse. This is a trap for hybrids. I start to think about the impending nightfall, how if it rains I’ll drown down here and erupt in desperate fury. “BARNACLE-CRUSTED ANAL BEADS, FUCKING WHAT IS THIS SHIT!” I stop, naked and covered head to toe in yellow dirt. “Watch your step,” Padgett said. I beat the mud walls and scream until my voice gives out.

She smiled looking at it because Mina thought she had all of her goodies in one backpack. There was a loud crash that had large pieces of the ceiling coming down. Orion says after noticing my confusion. “Now it looks like a tiny run down shed that we keep some old tools in for show. But there is a code you punch into the wall methodically and it opens the doors.” I am in awe. That is super smart. When we get into the shack, I see Orion punch in the code of what looks like a birthday. As soon as the floor opens up, there are double doors that open automatically.
