They were coming.
“Fuck,” I muttered, scrambling back up to my feet. I whirled in the direction of the boat and bolted forward, praying that I wouldn’t fall through the rotted wood as I scrambled on board and raced to find a place to hide. I couldn’t see anything in the dark, musty inside of the boat, so I shouldn’t have been surprised when the creak of rotted wood groaned beneath my feet, and suddenly I fell, hard, into the collapsing floor that caved in around me.
