"Oh, it’s a blast. Last time, Caroline accidentally ate a mushroom that made her hallucinate for three hours. She convinced herself she was a squirrel and tried to climb a tree."
I blinked. "What?"
"Yeah," he grinned. "It was hilarious."
"She could’ve died!"
"She didn’t," he shrugged. "And now she knows not to eat random mushrooms."
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "I hate this place."
The Great Hall was packed by the time we arrived, the air thick with the scent of old wood and herbs. Professor Alden stood at the front, his hulking frame casting a shadow over the podium. Beside him, a table was laden with baskets, knives, rope, and maps... the tools of our impending doom.
