"I know." Reese lifted his leg and knocked my buttocks with his knee. I gave him a pat on the arm for it, but before we could really start fighting - not that we ever did - a man in his early thirties stepped out from between the cubicles and came up to us smiling. He wore glasses and had his hair cut so short that I couldn't tell whether it was dark blonde or brown. He seemed to have a slight posture, which he hunched a little, but wow, the muscles that were visible under his sweater certainly didn't come from chilling on the couch. "Hi." He nodded to me and held out his hand to Reese. "I'm Anton Faust and you have to be Reese Tack, the Venator from the guild in Berlin."

What could it hurt, after all? "I am a Reaver," I purred, my voice low and smooth. Roxy's eyes widened, a flicker of surprise dancing across her face. I was certain she had stumbled upon the chapters detailing my kind in the book she'd been reading. Three entire chapters were devoted to Reavers, and they were nestled near the beginning of the book. Given that she was now halfway through, I assumed she had already devoured those particular pages.

Albeit, slowly, it didn’t even make a single sound. My mind instantly trailed back to the book I had previously read in the pack library. ‘There are 4 Reavers that rule the Underworld.’ Raphael was one of the names in the book. I was snapped from my thoughts when I looked up and found myself face to face with an eerily gorgeous man.

I got in my fighting stance and grinned. "You're their king, you're king of them all, an actual sexy Grim Reaper," I said assuredly as I swung my scythe and began fighting with the different weapon equipped reapers. I didn't want to kill them, only wished for them to back off. I tucked my scythe underneath my arm and waved a binding spell, wrapping three of the attackers into my golden binds. Ellis had his two back up against the building's wall. I glanced at him and he said he couldn't kill them for doing their job. I narrowed my eyes gazing over my captured reapers. "Why are you trying to reap him? He's like you, a reaper and it's against our rules to reap each other," I growled angrily.

Probably not. I’m hissing and spitting like only an actual threatened feline can. Then I notice my backside has been charred and there’s this small matter of a flame on the small tip past my ball tail. A hyperactive skeleton races to put the tremulous fire out. It runs screaming and dragging what looks like giant innards but turns out to be a fire hose. I’m struck by a jet of foul swamp water like a street demonstrator or an unwashed prisoner of war. More laughter from Septimus and his Helter-Skeltals. The sound the reaper makes is that of grinding tectonic plates transformed into a voice.

He stroked my hand with his thumb. “The bringers of death?” I suggested. “The Delazar’s thrive on war. Their leader loves chaos and power. Delazar believes the weak should be killed.” He paused, with a grim look on his face, and I thought back to what Sam said about his brother, then he continued, “Reaper is the name he gave our clan because we are the bringers of death.” “Have you… brought death to anyone?” I wanted his answer to be no but a part of me wondered and I had to know.
