Not a deer.
"Dominic?" Raven whispered, sensing my change in mood.
"Stay behind me," I commanded.
Out of the thick brush, a grizzly bear emerged. It was massive—easily eight hundred pounds of muscle and fur. Its eyes were milky with age and pain, and I could see a deep, infected wound on its shoulder. A "rogue" bear. They were the most dangerous because they had nothing to lose.
The bear roared, a sound that shook the trees. It didn't care that I was a werewolf. It was hungry, and we were in its territory.
