I was the only one to survive the fire, but I really wish there was a chance that it could be real. Halloween: Ever since my birthday strange things have been happening. I shared some with Ashe, that they hadn’t witnessed and they told their parents this morning. I don’t know why, but their parents want me to come by after school and talk. They will be throwing a Halloween party in the school Gym tonight, but I feel like things could just keep getting weirder and weirder if I go, so Ashe and I are going to watch horror movies and gorge ourselves on popcorn and candy.

I tilted the cover just enough to give them a glimpse. “A witch!” “There’s a kitty!” “Is it about ghosts?” The children scrambled off the adults’ laps and crowded closer. “Halloween is almost here. So today, I’m going to read you a story called *The Wonders of Halloween*.” The children eagerly began telling me about the Halloween decorations they had made at school. Before I knew it, even more of them had gathered around me. “Rin was a girl who was afraid of ghosts and the dark. That was why she could not understand why everyone else wanted to turn into ghosts—”

Ellie asked, a memory on the cusp of her thoughts as she tried to focus on why it was familiar. "Yeah, you know how you said you saw a Fate with a long, flowing red dress at the Feast of the Fates? Well, the Feast of the Fates supposedly ends at Halloween, it's the culmination of all of the Fates celebrating another year of their people. The mother of the fates is the woman in the red dress. That's why it's a red moon, the moon becomes a reflection of the mother and when the feast ends, the fates decide how the next year will go. So, big changes always happen at Halloween," Sam said as she glanced behind her to make sure Ellie had heard her explanation.

I tried to Chase but I just heard him scoff and go quiet. “Alpha Jackson.” Vael shouted, pulling me out of my thoughts. I looked up at him. “You need to go get help get things ready for tonight. It’s Halloween. Halloween is an important event to Ume and her family. Her sisters spent days making sure everything here still went on as planned.”

We’ve just parked outside my folk’s house and there are a lot of cars out front and on the extensive drive that they had extended the year before last because mom and dad like to entertain and give parties, for every season. Their Halloween bash is always a hoot, everyone turns up and some of their longer distance friends that they have made over the years turn out. Their house always wins the Halloween street competition. It stems from when we were kids, every year there would be more displays, more cobweb stuff on the outside walls and the front porch. Halloween in Bluebridge is a big thing, it's bigger than Christmas. People decorated the trees along the pathways, front lawns were turned into creepy pumpkin fields. All the street lights were turned off, the only lights were coming from candles, torches, and the stars. People turned on minimum lights in their houses so the essence of Halloween can be captured throughout the whole town. It was a tradition that's been passed on from generation to generation. Bluebridge turned into a murderous ghost town for one night, and Charlene loved it so much.

“I won’t be long.” He might as well ask Darien now instead of texting him later. “I’m listening.” “Did you want to go to the Halloween party at Chadwick’s Creations next Friday?” he asked. “It’s fancy dress themed so you can be in disguise to hide your face. I’ve always wanted to go to Chadwick’s Creations.” There was a brief silence over the line and he could tell that Darien was adding up the pros and cons of going. “I’m open to going. It’s supposed to be a delicious place to go to for people who like sweet things. I am free that evening so it works with my schedule.”
