Family's Regret After She Kneels
Halfway across, my foot slid.
I caught myself with a sharp breath, heart hammering. But when the beam tilted again, I toppled, hitting the damp earth hard.
“Again,” the witch said without hesitation.
I bit down on my frustration and climbed back up. This time I made it further before falling. The cycle repeated, fall, climb, walk, fall again.
By the end of the exercise, my legs shook, my palms burned, and sweat clung to my back.
“Focus,” another witch commanded the next day. A blindfold covered my eyes, pressing tight against my temples.
