I put down the box that was filled with Valerie’s belongings and took out the handkerchief from my pocket. “Hold your breath.” I gave the handkerchief to Giofre for him to cover his nose. I breathed in, wondering if the medicine still works for me, and it seems like it still does. I could feel my panic rising but I can’t let it control me this time. Giofre and I have to get out of this alive.

I turned my head away in disgust to avoid his touch, then pulled out a silk handkerchief from my sleeve and scrubbed my jaw hard. "Don't touch me." I tossed the used handkerchief at his face. "You're revolting."

I blinked severally to see clearly, but the more I blinked, the darker it got.
