“Won’t you go to bed?” “Nah, I’m too cozy here.” She yawns. “Just throw that quilt over me, will you?” I pick up a quilt from the armchair and cover her with it. “Oh, and Jamie,” she mutters, her eyes already closed. “I forgot to remind you. Raven’s Birthday is this Friday. You should get him something. He’s been such a good boy. You need money?” “Nope, I still have my summer cash.” Almost two thousand dollars left from my lawns mowing days still provide me with some independence when small expenses are required. “Good night.”

Today, the apartment was oddly quiet. He frowned, kicking off his shoes. “Babe?” The moment he stepped into the living room, the lights suddenly flared on. “SURPRISE!!!” Riven jumped back, heart leaping into his throat. The entire space was decorated with balloons, fairy lights, and a giant banner that read “Happy Birthday, Riven!” Dozens of people filled the room — his old hockey teammates, Kael’s teammates, his friends; even Nico and Faye; May (who was already grinning with tears in her eyes); and… Dex.

"I'm on the summit of Mount Cashmoore." Her face twisted in disbelief. "That's impossible! Without Snowviper, you'd have died from the heat on the way!" I smiled. "Guess I forgot to mention—Blazewing flies faster than a rocket. So really, I should be thanking you for handing him over to me." I ended the call and watched her through the bronze mirror. Raven was furious, throwing things across the room. Snowviper came out to see what was going on. Raven ran at him and started hitting and kicking, even slapping him across the face when he wasn't expecting it.

Thank God. It was very nice of Raven to give me a ride. On the way there Raven told me that I needed to get ready as my pictures will be in front of magazines. He was very sure of that. He gave me a ride himself, because he still didn’t know who could be trusted in a matter like this. We were heading to his friend's house, who happened to be a very famous singer. His name was not familiar to me. Or I was always too busy. I did tell him about my schedule. Monday and Thursday were the busiest days. As these were ward days. Except those days I was free by lunch time. Raven was very easy going. Very sensible. Always understanding the situation. Contrary to Mr. ‘I’ll kill you’. I rolled my eyes

I will not miss you" Joy added, but I knew too well that she meant the opposite. I could tell by her faded smile. Evelyn placed a hand on my shoulder, making me turn to face her directly. "Get better," she said and added a stern warning "and don't come back here ever again". I felt like crying that instant but I tried my best to hold it back. Crying would only make Evelyn more sad. She was one of those who were almost always in the woods. I am no doctor but I could tell from her appearance that she had at most, a month or two to live. She looked it. I wished I could tell her to get better too and never come back here.

"I didn't save her life. I just helped." "Annie, you have to realize—you’re practically a national hero! How can you not see that?" she exclaimed, her excitement radiating off her. I tried to hide the smile that tugged at the corners of my mouth but couldn't. Inside, I felt a comforting warmth, a sense of belonging that wrapped around me like a cozy blanket. Being back home, surrounded by familiar faces, and feeling the love that enveloped me was indescribable. But just as I was savoring this moment of joy, a sudden, sharp sound sliced through the cheerful atmosphere of the camp.

She was supposed to leave today for her village and although Declan had already prepared gifts for her, I thought it would be great to give my personal thanks to her. Knocking twice, the woman opened the door for me with a bright smile. “Hello, Raven,” she greeted. “Quite a surprise.” I returned the smile, “I'm sorry for barging in on you. It's nothing too serious. I just wanted to thank you once again.”
