Chapter 17 Scarlett The next day was as usual and surprisingly no one visited me. I found a few books that were placed on the table. It was the Harry Potter series. Taking the book, I went to bed and hopped up. Leaning back, I started reading. The book captivated me wholly and I didnt know how many hours passed until a soft knock came on the door.

I took it out and read the title. It was only one word. Magic. It looked interesting so I took it and sat back down on the couch. The first few chapters were not that interesting. History of magic and spells. The next few chapters talked about potions and herbs. But the last chapter caught my attention. It simply said: “Prophecies”. I flipped over to the last chapter and started reading. It was about prophecies that already happened. It was about who made those prophecies and what they meant to the supernatural world. Nothing useful to me. I needed to know about the prophecy that didn’t happen already.

The creature dissolved. Not all at once, but in pieces, fragments of shadow breaking off and drifting away like smoke. The old man's face appeared one last time, his white eyes wide with fear, his mouth open in a scream that no one heard. Then he was gone, and the darkness in the chamber began to fade. The bones in the alcoves crumbled to dust.

I tucked the signed divorce papers into Jessica's bag. Then I left the hospital, carrying my dead daughter in my arms. Five years ago, looking back was what put me in this hell. This time, I wasn't going to look back again.
