Conversations stutter and die as every head swivels toward us. Rhett offers a hand. “Come.” It’s not a question. My heart thuds once, hard. I should say no. I don’t. My fingers slide into his, calloused warmth swallowing mine. We walk through the halls like a tide cutting through rock. Students press back, their whispers chasing us: the Royals—and now her. The High Table waits on its raised dais, a place of privilege and politics. I never once though I would find myself at this alter. Today they make it look inevitable.

"Why don't you ask Mr. Stein if he actually dares to expel me? Who do you think you're trying to intimidate? You might as well just call the police on me instead." Everyone in the lecture hall turned their eyes to Mr. Stein, looking at him expectantly. However, he just glanced briefly at Ariel and said, "Ms. Potter, kindly shift over to the left. Don't get in Mr. Larson's way." The students froze at once. Ariel couldn't believe her ears. "But Mr. Stein! He just flung his bottle at me just now!" Mr. Stein waved her off dismissively and impatiently, signaling for her to shut up. Then, he turned to address the class.

He hit the door several times, but it wouldn't bulge, and he felt dampness beneath his feet and heard some hissing sounds around him. His scalp tingles when he feels something cold climbing up his legs. Daniel touched his legs and screamed when he realized it was a snake, and from the hissing sounds, he realized there were many snakes in the room. Straight nose, kissable lips. Wait what? Like an angel sent from above, a flight attendant suddenly stops by her and seems to be flirting with her just by the way she playfully moves her finger all over his arm. Just when I've managed to reach the top step, something dreadful I didn't consider and should have expected would happen-my phone ringtone sets off. I come to a solid freeze as I gape in horror down at my pocket. Pivoting in abruptness on my heel, I swiftly glimpse back just in time. My gaze locks with a very much startled Harry-staring right up at me before his features contort into outrage.

I wasn't sure what I expected when I suggested a movie night. Having Hollyn sit on the floor barely two feet away from the TV wasn't how I'd envisioned the night progressing, that was for damn sure. But her astonishment when I'd turned the movie on had curbed any desire I had to quash the joy lighting up her face. What the fuck are we going to do? I asked my brothers as Harry visited Diagon Alley for the first time on the screen. We need some straight fucking answers, Thane said. His mental voice was tight and hard.
