The smell alone is soothing, and the cordial arrangements of each plant bed show how organized my grandmother is.

It is the wrong season,’ I replied. The moment I stepped through the entrance, I saw the rose bushes. They were full and open despite the cold. How was that possible? ‘There is something on them,’ my wolf added. ‘A fertilizer, or a potion maybe. Something was used to bring them out early.’ I looked at them for a moment longer before continuing down the path. At the far end of the garden stood the central greenhouse. The glass was fogged slightly from the warmth inside. I pushed the door open and stepped in.

There are herbs hanging everywhere, I have never seen our private greenhouse so full of life. My mother loved plants and spent a lot of time tending to her flowers, but these witches have turned it into a living, breathing apothecary. They even transplanted some of my mother’s favorites to a special corner to honor her.

Curiosity piqued, I approached her, my eyes widening at the sight that greeted me inside. The greenhouse was a mystical haven, filled with an array of potions, strange leaves, and exotic plants. It was as if I had stumbled upon a secret world hidden within our own. My mom turned to face me, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Welcome, my child," she said, her voice laced with a hint of excitement. "This is where the true magic happens." I couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation. "What is all this, Mom?" I asked, my voice barely containing my awe.

Her eyes slightly squinted at the vase. “It looks fine to me. What do you plan on doing with it?” “This? I need it for some flowers in the royal greenhouse” “There is a greenhouse around here?” My eyes lit up. “Yes there is, come I’ll show you,” she said sweetly, smiling at me. The greenhouse was far back some overgrown grasses behind the castle. We followed a wall clearing between the grasses and the greenhouse came into view. “Wow,” I gaped around in amazement.

Something about this land remembers me… or maybe remembers my grandmother and just assumes I will do. I turn slowly, taking it all in. The greenhouse, still being reinforced with panes of magic-treated glass, has started to gather life. Tiny pots of rosemary, marigold, mugwort. Some of the herbs I dreamt about are already here, as if they had waited for me to remember them. I kneel by a tray of feverfew, fingers brushing its leaves, and smile.

Books floated lazily in the air, flipping their own pages slowly. The greenhouse pulsed with life and colour. A thousand herbs and magical plants filled the space. Brilliant orange marigold mandrakes danced in their pots of carved stone. Stalks of golden thistle swayed, rubbing against each other. Mushrooms cooed and glowed, lighting up as some tiny men, no bigger than a thumb, tended to the weeds growing around them. Prince Ron stared at all this in awe. Where exactly was he? The place was really cool! No, it was completely breathtaking!

Not really. I should have been back at the dorm packing the last of my things. Ronan had asked if I wanted a hand, but I shook my head and told him I’d see him at the stables. We’d be going old-world, by enchanted carriage and spell-forged wheels, with a whole cloak-and-ward party to keep our entourage obscured. Nora didn’t do anything by halves. But first, I needed to say goodbye. The greenhouse stood before me, great and curved, its glass panes streaked with dew and the first faint touches of frost. I slipped inside and shut the door behind me with a quiet thud. It was warm, humid, throbbing with life.

Jax pov The air inside the Harrington greenhouse was thick enough to taste, a humid cocktail of damp earth, blooming orchids, and the rhythmic drumming of a sudden spring downpour against the glass panes overhead. It felt like a world apart, a green sanctuary where the polished, jagged edges of the academy couldn't reach us.
