I stepped inside fully, my eyes adjusting to the dim light. And there, tangled in bedsheets that had somehow fallen to the floor, was Shadow.
Except he was not a small pup anymore. He had grown considerably, his body now the size of a young adult wolf. He must have gotten tangled in the sheets and panicked, wrapping himself tighter in his struggle to break free.
His golden eyes found mine and he whined again, a sound of pure distress.
"Oh, Shadow," I breathed, hurrying to his side. "How did you get yourself into this mess?"
