Chapter 2 (After a decade) Third POV Willowbrook stirred with the approach of the dreaded day—the offering of a bride to Solas, the forgotten moon god. It had been a decade since the last sacrifice, a decade of uneasy peace under the watchful gaze of the moon. The village had grown, its thatched cottages spreading like the roots of an ancient tree, yet beneath the facade of tranquility lay an undercurrent of fear whenever the moon reached its peak.

Luca’s POV It is the first night of the Harvest Moon Festival which also happens to be the last day of the deadline the two Alphas gave us twenty days ago. By midnight, we are no longer sons of Kaelara. We are strangers to it. Everything is in order. The properties are sold and we manage to get most of the money in the bank—everything that we can use to start anew in the mainland and also fund the new venture me and my brothers are planning in a few months.

Then she remembered that in Lyle’s absence, Adam has been acting as the leader of the village. “It’s good to see you all here. Our village, and all the people of this mountain have been waiting for this night for a long time. Tonight is the night that we welcome the daughter of the goddess at her first full moon. And tonight is the night that she will choose her life mate.” Many of the people that were standing at the back of the room turned around and looked directly at Amaris. Anna and Amaris stared at one another. Amaris mouthed to Anna ‘choose a life mate!’

She didn’t lift her eyes toward him and sat quietly, eating her breakfast as if he didn’t exist. “Ethan!” Killian’s deep voice echoed through the hall. “Alpha!” Ethan turned toward him, now fully attentive. “We’re organizing the Harvest Moon festival like we do every year,” Killian said in his commanding voice. “Corbin Graves and his family are coming too. Make sure all the arrangements for their stay are perfect.” Isabella felt Rose stiffen beside her. Rose froze in the middle of eating, her eyes fixed on Ethan. But Ethan remained indifferent. He was staring straight at Killian.
