The lie tasted bitter because the truth was I hadn’t stopped immediately. I had searched for months or maybe a year. But Adeline has disappeared. No address, no workplace and no phone number. It was as if she had vanished from existence. Eventually, I gave up. Life moved on or at least I convinced myself it had. “You’re thinking again,” Mira said. “I have work.” I replied “You always have work.” “And you always talk too much.” I said and she laughed. “Fine. Call me later.” I grabbed my car keys and headed for Hartley Corporation. The drive took twenty minutes, but my mind was elsewhere.

Lucky there’s nothing deep needing stitches. In my grieving and broken state, I begin to feel faint. I let myself go and pass out. Opening my eyes I feel myself transported into another realm. Standing in front of me is my grandmother’s house which stands in front of a looming property which I dare not go near. The “LeFleur” mansion. She knocked lightly on the door frame, hesitating for a moment before stepping inside. "Sorin," she began softly, her voice breaking the silence that enveloped the room. Sorin glanced up, a faint smile gracing his features at the sight of Adeline. "Adeline," he greeted warmly, setting aside the documents. "Come in." Adeline entered the study, her gaze sweeping over the meticulously organized shelves and the faint scent of leather-bound books that filled the air. She took a seat opposite Sorin, her thoughts racing as she considered the words she wanted to share.

"So where to next, darling?" I tapped the privacy glass. "Home, Albert,and make it snappy." Adeline clapped her hands delightedly. "You're finally taking me to your place! I was beginning to think it didn't really exist." All too soon,we arrived at the mansion and Adeline gasped softly, craning her neck to take it all in. "Cameron, it's exquisite. I had no idea..." Her voice trailed off as we rolled to a halt before the columns of the portico. I suppressed a satisfied smirk, stepping swiftly to proffer my hand and help her elegantly from the car.

Reaching back into the recesses of my mind, I search for Adeline. 'Adeline,' I whisper weakly in my mind. 'I am here,' her voice and presence is weak within me. 'What happened?' I ask her hoping that she remembers more than what I do. 'I don't know,' Adeline's voice is fading softer and softer. 'But I feel myself fading away.' 'Adeline,' I call out in my mind as loud as I can but there is no response. 'Adeline,' I whisper again but she is gone.

The curtains waved gently behind her. Rain and Jace waited for a few minutes. They could smell the tea leaves brewing and some warm cakes from baking. "I don't like it here! We're just wasting time. We'd better hurry to your father's apartment!" Jace got up from the knitted sofa. "But, this is rude! At least I want to sip the tea!" Rain was annoyed because she was very thirsty and hungry. Adaline stirred the tea in a white cup coated with gold paint. Her smile grew as her left hand spun a grain of powder that no one knew what it was. Her lips kept humming as if she was chanting a spell.
