COLD STEEL, BLEEDING HEARTS
The cover showed a silver tree and a red door, titled: THE GHOSTS OF THE INK.
The woman flipped to the last page, glanced at the words, then at Maya.
"You’re not supposed to be here," she said, voice shaking with both fear and thrill. "The book ends with you dying in the white space. I just finished reading it ten minutes ago."
Maya looked at the book. The ink on the page was shifting—new words, fresh and alive, wrote themselves as she watched.
The woman glanced at the sky.
"Oh no," she whispered. "The Readers—they didn’t vanish. They followed you into the real world."
