He hadn't asked further. He went to the tidal flats and stood on the lowest step, looking down at the water. It was clear enough to see the rocks and sea grass below. He took off his coat, set it on the step, and jumped in. The water was cold enough to make his lungs seize. He opened his eyes. The salt water burned them red, but he didn't close them. He looked in every direction. Nothing. Just rocks, sea grass, and a few fish he didn't recognize. He dove to the bottom, wedged his fingers into the crevices of the rock to anchor himself, and stayed there until his lungs were nearly out of oxygen.

It makes me feel completely powerless. Knowing I am in his hands and need him, I beg. "Darren, I will do anything for you, just please don't leave me alone again."
