As they stepped into the cool, damp air of the night, the rain had transformed into a light drizzle, misting the surroundings in a haze. The world outside felt lush and alive, yet ominous with an undercurrent of uncertainty. George led the way, Elora and Maya close behind, each step bringing them closer to a sanctuary that felt both like a refuge and a line crossed. Selene’s POV Snow swallowed us whole. Not a gentle drift—an explosion of white, ripping sideways as something massive crashed into the clearing. Arden’s hand tightened around mine just before the world spun, the ground ripping away beneath my boots. A roar followed—low, bone-deep, vibrating through snow and skin alike. My back slammed into a fallen tree. Breath punched from my lungs. I tasted iron. The forest rang with the echo of claws tearing into frozen earth. Arden landed beside me with a harsh groan, bracing himself against the trunk, eyes wide and burning.

We drive into the compound, and I can see the beta waiting for us by the staircase. “How bad is it?” he asks as soon as Joshua gets out of the car.

Word soon reached the manor, and Luca stood in the security room, staring at footage of the ambush. He was silent as his eyes darted over the bullet marks and the car wrecks, while one of his men stood beside him, reporting the list of losses. Once his man finished, Luca promptly told everyone to find a mole—the ambush was so precise that someone knew their methods and routes. He naturally didn't notice Lina standing by the door, looking seriously worried.

Draevyn caught her before she could fall. His hands closed around her arms, steadying her easily as he drew her upright. His brows pulled together as he studied her face. “Kaelani?” His voice lowered, threaded with concern. “Are you alright?” She blinked, pressing her fingers lightly to her temple. “I’m fine,” she murmured. “Just… a little faint.” The dizziness rolled through her again, softer this time but enough to make her lean slightly into him. “The lagoon can do that the first time,” he explained. “Its waters are… deeply calming. They draw tension from the body. Sometimes more than one expects.”
